Frequently Asked Questions - Wood Rolls

What are Wood Rolls?

Wood Rolls are a light weight and cost-effective alternative to heavy MDF panels such as Laminex. They are made using wood pulp, which is then moulded into a particular pattern, creating a 3D decorative look. They are designed and made to be flexible and bendable, making them ideal for use on curved walls or furniture. They are easy to cut with just scissors and can be adhered to surfaces with a strong Contact Adhesive.

Our Flexible Wood Rolls are perfect for creating seamless, continuous patterns, ideal for feature walls or surfaces. Each panel is designed with precision-cut edges that align easily side by side for a smooth finish. The rolls come with excess raw paper edges, which can be trimmed off to ensure a clean, continuous look, whether installed horizontally or vertically. In some cases, depending on how the roll was cut, there may be slight gaps or join lines between panels. These can be quickly and effortlessly fixed with wood filler, resulting in a flawless, professional finish.

What surfaces can I use Wood Roll on?

Gyprock, painted walls, acrylic, wood or MDF as a feature wall/ceiling or even to wrap furniture. Just make sure the surface in clean and dry before installation.

What can I use to adhere the Wood Roll to my projects surface?

We recommend the use of a strong Contact Adhesive for best results. This can then be rolled and or brushed on before applying to your desired surface. This can be purchased from your local hardware store.

What dimensions are the Wood Rolls?

Wood Roll is 120cm Wide/High x 240cm Long, with the pattern running along the length of the roll

Thickness:

  • French Stripe = 2.5mm at highest point, 1mm at lowest point
  • Scallop = 3mm at highest point, 1mm at lowest point
  • Large Scallop = 3mm at highest point, 1mm at lowest point
  • Demi Round = 3mm at highest point, 1mm at lowest point
  • Large Demi Round = 3mm at highest point, 1mm at lowest point
  • Pointed = 3mm at highest point, 1mm at lowest point

How do you cut these to size?

The Wood Roll range can be easily cut with a sharp Stanley knife. Simply measure your panel to size and score the panel several times for a crisp cut, then you're ready to add your adhesive and install.

Can I use Wood Rolls in wet areas?

We do not recommend you use Wood Roll in areas that will get frequently exposed to water. Occasional exposure to water or splashes is ok. We would however recommend sealing this with a clear topcoat for a lasting finish.

Can these be painted or stained?

The Wood Rolls are pre primed but we do recommend a light sanding to ensure and even application of painting, staining or leave in its raw state. We would always recommend finishing with a clear topcoat no matter how you decide to finish them.

Are they easy to join together?

For those that are wanting to make a continuous feature or pattern with the Wood Rolls, each panel can be lined up together to create this effect. On occasion and depending on how the roll was cut there may be slight gaps/join lines between each panel which can easily be fixed with wood filler for a seamless finish.

Better than I could have ever imagined

We purchased the subway tiles for behind out kitchen sink and couldn’t be happier. They were extremely easy to work with, no mess, no fuss and look amazing.

I’m really happy with this product as the quality is excellent, the adhesion is strong, and they’re easy to use. We used these to cover our existing laundry tiles, which were chipped and cracked after removing an old leaking sink unit. These stick-on tiles were ideal as there was no need to remove the old tiles and we could extend them right across the backsplash. They’re thick enough to mask the underlying grout lines between the old tiles and also adhered beautifully to plywood, which we added to level out the wall.

Cutting them took a bit of elbow grease (thanks to awkward shapes around taps and having a blunt utility knife, etc.), but the finish was worth it. I debated between the white and natural stone options, and I’m glad I went with the matte white as it looks perfect in our laundry.

I decided to grout them (not necessary, but I liked the look) and used standard cement grout from Bunnings, which I wouldn’t recommend, as the shallow indents caused a few small cracks after a mini earthquake the night I finished! I’ll redo it later with a more suitable flexible grout.

The only minor issue is that our base tiles weren’t perfectly even, and that does show slightly. This is not a big deal for us, but perfectionists will want a completely flat base.

Delivery and customer service were excellent, even to our regional area. I’m so pleased with the result and will definitely use these again for future projects. Guests are always surprised when I tell them they’re not real ceramic tiles!

Ezy Peezey 👍

I really enjoyed laying these. They have a super strong stick, but you still have a decent amount of time to pull up and adjust before they’re stuck down for good. Jake was super helpful and answered all 100 of my questions so I felt confident laying them.

These were a last ditch effort to make my small ensuite enjoyable before inevitably gutting the whole lot and starting again. Which will be expensive and is definitely a future me problem.

The hardest part for me was cutting out the circle for the drain hole in the middle of a tile. After ruining a few tiles I finally did one that I was happy with, and I still managed to end up with a few tiles left over with no other real mistakes. They’re sticking well, seem sturdy, although only time will tell and it only took me a couple of hours to do.

My only complaint is that there’s a lot of colour variation between each tile and the patterns don’t match up regardless of weather or not I used tiles from the same box or followed the arrows on the back. Thankfully you can’t really tell until you get up close. So I would suggest getting an extra packet to give you some be ability to fiddle around with all the tiles to make sure they line up with the surrounding tiles. I also used a vinyl roller to make sure everything was stuck down properly once I was happy with where they were placed.

Super cute pattern, easy and quick DIY. Would absolutely recommend

Really impressed! Easy to fit and they look great! Wanted to glow up my laundry without spending a fortune.

Excellent product

The tiles look good and the sheets are accurately made and easy to line up. They are easy to trim to size, have a good thickness and stick well. Good value too and much easier than sticking tiles onto a wall and having to grout them.

Sample Box Review

Was happy with the sample box and the three tiles I picked - made it easier to make a choice and also I get a credit when I place my order. I was very happy with the quality and look of the tile

Great product love the look. is a little bit tricky to apply. Need to use a good adhesive and in the end used a staple gun as well, once painted staples are barely visible. Also needed to lay something on top to flatten for a few days.
