Vinyl Floor Tile Installation Guide

How to Install Peel & Stick Vinyl Floor Tiles

Give your floors a designer tile look without a tiler, grout, demolition or expensive cutting tools. Our peel and stick flooring range is designed to go straight over existing floor grout lines, making it a simple and cost-effective DIY upgrade.

What You’ll Need

  • Cutting surface
  • Ruler
  • Stanley knife with fresh blade
  • Pencil
  • Sugar soap or dishwashing liquid
  • Cleaning cloth
  • Bucket of warm water
  • Fine sandpaper as needed
  • Silicone or caulk for edges

Designed for Easy DIY Flooring

There is no need to fill existing grout lines before installing. Our peel and stick vinyl floor tiles are designed to be installed directly over suitable existing floors, including floors with grout lines.

For best results, make sure the surface is clean, dry, flat and free from dust, grease or loose material before installation.

Wall or Splashback Installation

Thinking of Installing Vinyl Floor Tiles on a Wall or Splashback?

Our vinyl floor tiles include adhesive backing for convenient installation on horizontal, flat surfaces. If installing them vertically, such as on a wall or splashback, some situations may require stronger adhesive support or spot fixing for optimal performance.

Selleys 500ml Kwik Grip Horizontal Contact Adhesive

We recommend a solvent-free, water-based adhesive designed for vinyl tiles and flooring. It provides strong bonding power, is low in odour and is easy to clean up.

It works effectively on timber, concrete and fibre-cement surfaces, helping create a secure and lasting finish.

Step-by-Step Installation Guide

Follow these simple steps for a clean, professional-looking vinyl floor tile installation.

Cleaning the surface before installing vinyl floor tiles
Step 1

Clean the Surface

Wipe the area clean with a gentle cleaning agent to remove dirt, dust, grease and debris. Allow the floor to become touch dry before moving to the next step.

Acclimating vinyl floor tiles before installation
Step 2

Acclimate the Tiles

Allow the vinyl tiles to acclimate to the room’s temperature and humidity for at least 48 hours before installation. This helps reduce the risk of expansion or contraction after installation.

Step 3

Lay the First Tile

Starting in the corner of the longest wall, peel back the film and place the first tile sheet on the floor. Once applied, firmly press the tile down for optimal adhesion.

Step 4

Continue Laying Tiles

Continue installing tiles in rows, working outward. Use your hands or a straight edge to press each tile down firmly and remove air bubbles or gaps.

Cutting vinyl floor tiles to fit room edges
Step 5

Cut Tiles to Fit

When you reach the edges of the room, measure and mark the tiles that need cutting. Use a sharp Stanley knife with a fresh blade to make precise cuts.

Step 6

Fit and Finish

Ensure cut tiles fit snugly against walls and corners. Make small adjustments with a Stanley knife as needed, then continue installing until the full floor area is covered with a tight fit between tiles.

Finishing Tip

For a neat finish around room edges, use silicone or caulk where needed. Once complete, take plenty of before-and-after photos and share your DIY transformation with #stickontiles.
