Before You Start

Before installing your flexible wall panels, take a few minutes to check your materials, confirm quantities and plan your layout properly.

  • Check all panels before fixing them in place
  • Confirm quantities using the wall panel calculator
  • Allow extra material for cuts and offcuts
  • Test your layout before applying adhesive
Tip: Dry laying or test fitting your panels first helps visualise spacing, alignment and edge cuts before permanent installation.

Suitable Surfaces

Flexible wall panels are best installed onto clean, smooth and dry interior wall surfaces that are stable and suitable for adhesive installation.

  • Plasterboard
  • MDF
  • Plywood
  • Timber sheets
  • Smooth painted walls in good condition
The wall surface should be dry, dust free, grease free and as even as possible. These panels are recommended for interior use only.

How to Install Flexible Wall Panels

Our Flexible Wall Panels are designed to make it easier to create decorative feature walls with a more architectural finish. Whether you're installing Scalloped, Demi Round or Batten panels, the process is straightforward with the right wall preparation, tools and adhesive.

This guide covers the recommended installation method for our flexible wall panel range, including pre-primed, oak veneer, and natural birch finish panels.

Tools & Materials Needed

  • tape measure
  • pencil
  • level or laser level
  • circular saw, jigsaw or fine-tooth handsaw
  • construction adhesive
  • caulking gun
  • sandpaper for small edge clean-ups
  • clean cloth for dust removal

Recommended Adhesive

Use a quality construction adhesive suitable for MDF, timber or decorative wall panels. Adhesives should always be selected based on the wall surface and installation conditions. Follow the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions for application, cure times and suitability.

  • Step 1- Measure the Wall Area

Measure the width and height of the wall or each individual wall section you want to cover. If the wall includes windows, cabinetry, bulkheads or power points, plan around these before cutting any panels.

Use our Wall Panel Coverage Calculator to estimate the number of cartons required for your project. We generally recommend allowing around 10% extra for cuts, trimming and offcuts.

  • Step 2: Plan the Layout

Before applying adhesive, plan how the panels will run across the wall. This is especially important for feature walls where you want a balanced look at both ends of the installation. Start from a straight reference line and avoid very narrow panel cuts at one edge if possible. Dry lay panels first to visualise the final layout and check profile alignment before fixing panels permanently. For the cleanest finish, use a level or laser line to mark your starting point

  • Step 3: Prepare the Wall Surface

Make sure the wall is ready before installing any panels. The surface should be clean, dry, dust free and free from loose paint, grease or residue

If the wall has texture, bumps or uneven sections, these should be smoothed first where possible. A flatter surface will help the panels sit neatly and bond more evenly.

  • Step 4: Cut Panels to Size

Panels can be cut to suit your wall dimensions and fit around edges, corners, joinery and fixtures.

Suitable tools like a circular saw, jigsaw, fine-tooth handsaw will work to cut the panels to size as needed.

For the best finish measure carefully before each cut. Cut slowly and steadily supporting the panel well during cutting

For timber-faced finishes such as oak veneer or birch, careful cutting will help achieve a cleaner edge and minimise chipping.

  • Step 5: Dry Fit Before Installing

It's the building rule of measure twice cut once. Before applying adhesive, place the cut panels in position to check:

    • fit
    • spacing
    • alignment
    • final visual balance

This step helps avoid mistakes and makes final installation much easier.

  • Step 6: Apply Adhesive

Apply a suitable construction adhesive to the back of the panel according to the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions.

Adhesive is typically applied in beads or lines across the back of the panel, with enough coverage to ensure a strong bond across the full surface.

Do not apply more adhesive than you can work with before it begins to skin over.

  • Step 7: Install the Panels

Press the panel firmly onto the wall in its planned position. Continue panel by panel, making sure each panel aligns neatly with the previous one.

    As you install:

    • check the panel is sitting straight
    • maintain consistent profile alignment
    • wipe away any excess adhesive
    • continue across the wall until complete

If required, temporary support may help keep panels in place while the adhesive grabs.

  • Step 8: Allow Adhesive to Cure

Once installed, allow the adhesive to cure fully according to the adhesive manufacturer’s recommended time.

Avoid painting, sealing or placing unnecessary stress on the panels until the adhesive has set properly.

  • Step 9: Finish the Panels

The finishing step depends on the panel type you have chosen.

Pre-primed panels are designed to be painted after installation. Once installed and the adhesive has cured, apply your chosen paint system as suitable for interior decorative wall surfaces.

Oak & Birch panels can be finished with your preferred timber treatment depending on the final look you want to achieve. This may include a clear finish, oil or stain.

Always test your chosen finish on a small section first before applying across the full installation.
