Do Peel and Stick Acoustic Wall Panels Actually Work?
Share
Peel-and-stick acoustic wall panels reduce echo and soften sound inside a room, but they do not soundproof it. STA's Acoustic Wall Panels pair a wood-look PVC veneer face with an acoustic felt core. The spec sheet puts the reduction in reflected room noise at approximately 2–5 dB, which noticeably improves echo and speech clarity. It is not a fix for noise coming through a wall from next door.
What do acoustic wall panels actually do?
They absorb sound that would otherwise bounce between hard surfaces. In a bedroom, living room, home office or media room with plasterboard walls and hard floors, that means less echo and reverberation and a softer, clearer sound. The slatted surface and felt core work together to absorb sound while giving you a decorative feature wall.
Will acoustic panels soundproof a room?
No. Soundproofing means blocking sound from travelling between rooms, which needs structural fixes like added wall mass, insulation and sealed gaps. Acoustic panels treat the sound inside the room. The 2–5 dB figure is indicative only and varies with room size, how much wall you cover and the layout; it is not a certified lab NRC or Rw rating. If your goal is a less echoey room, panels suit you. If your goal is blocking a noisy neighbour, they won't.
What are the panel specs?
- Panel size: 1200mm high x 600mm wide x 20mm thick
- Slats: 25mm wide with a 15mm gap between each slat
- Pack: 2 panels, covering approximately 1.44m² (0.72m² per panel)
- Construction: PVC wood veneer face, acoustic felt core and a self-adhesive backing layer
- Materials: formaldehyde-free throughout
- Environment: dry, internal use only
The batten wood texture now wraps around the full face and sides of each batten, so the finish holds up from the front and at an angle. For weight and fire rating details, contact the team at info@stickontiles.com.au.
How do you install them?
The backing is self-adhesive, so there are no nails, glue or specialist tools. Panels trim easily on site with a utility knife or fine-tooth saw to fit around power points and edges. Install on clean, dry, smooth interior surfaces such as painted plasterboard, sealed walls or cabinetry. Avoid rough or textured walls, dusty surfaces and areas exposed to moisture, since adhesion suffers on those. They suit both DIY and trade installs, including commercial fit-outs.
Which finishes are available?
Nordic Oak, Light Walnut, Walnut, Charcoal Oak and Black, at $140 per pack of 2 panels. Order an acoustic panel sample kit to see the finish in your own lighting first.
